Dave Heyne Mentor
- Senior Creative Designer, Exterior Lighting
Dave Heyne is a senior creative designer for General Motors’ Advanced Lighting Studio and moonlights as a professor of Product Design at Lawrence Technological University. He joined the GM Design team in 2015, following five years as a product design consultant and four concurrent years teaching design drawing for the University of Cincinnati’s Transportation Design program.
During his career, he’s designed everything from boutique storefronts and headphones for Kanye West, to lighting systems for Cadillac and advanced military equipment.
Dave has enjoyed an obsession with cars all his life – hoarding Hot Wheels cars as a kid. This obsession persuaded him to spend five years depriving himself of sleep, while pursuing his degree in Transportation Design at the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program.
Dave is passionately involved in design education, guest mentoring on General Motors’ behalf all over the country at schools like Savannah College of Art and Design, Columbus College Art and Design and University of Cincinnati’s school of Design Architecture, Art and Planning.
